Aircraft Handling: How Do They Do It?
The USS Nimitz has the length and deck area of about three football fields, yet handles more aircraft per minute than JFK Airport. This 8 minute video from 'How do they do it?', on the Science Channel, shows what it takes to ready, launch, track and recover aircraft on the USS Nimitz.
Most people know the deck crew wears different colors to identify their jobs, such as yellow for 'shooter' or red for 'armament', but did you know there are 180 different hand signals used on deck to communicate in what can sometimes be a deafening environment?
