LEECH FAMILY INFORMATION PROVIDED BY Donnis Lewis-Coleman OF LOUSISINA HOME LEECH FAMILY INDEX
Sunday, May 12, 2002 1:05 PM From Donnis Lewis-Coleman Hi Gene, Thanks for responding. I, too, am in the midst of gathering and organizing information. And these family lines definitely DO cross. I will pass all the information on the Carter and Leech families that I have. Mrs Elizabeth Franklin(g) would be your Great Grandmother I believe on your Mother's side. I am attaching the article I wrote to you about which mentions your family. To view this you will have to either "save" it as a jpeg or save and print it. When I open it in my viewer, I "zoom" in then "zoom" out and it becomes very clear and readable. Meanwhile, I have census records and cemetery records of some the Leech family. Would that be of interest to you? Sincerely, Donnis Lewis-Coleman PS As for Perry Carter, I do know he was in the 14th Alabama Co. I (letter i)and Mrs. Carter received a pension. I have the record number of the pension application from the state of Texas. These usually contain a wealth of information.
Saturday, May 11, 2002 7:09 PM From Donnis Lewis Hello! I have just read the very thorough documentation made by your Mother of Cecelia Carter Leech's family. I had been searching (hitting brick walls) for the family of this Grandmother Carter's history before she moved to Panola County, Texas. I am related to the "Aunt Bett" mentioned in the writing, who was a daughter of Rebecca Frankling Carter. One problem I was having was I was limiting my search to Talladago County Alabama, and the spelling "Franklin" rather than "Frankling". I had assumed Franklin/Frankling was a surname.. Anyway your information has been very helpful. I have a copy of a newspaper or magazine article about Mrs Rebecca Frankling Carter, which mentions Cecelia and "Wash" Leech, and how they came to be married. This was told to the author by Mrs. Carter. I also have a picture of Mrs. Carter and Rebecca Polly Clementine( Carter ) Lewis. (Aunt Bett). If interested I will be glad to share what I have with you if you can reciprocate. Please let me hear from you if you are still interested. Sincerely, D. Lewis in Louisiana
Monday, May 13, 2002 10:10 AM From Donnis Lewis-Colman Hello again on thjis beautiful morning! Yes, that was the writing I was referring to in my email. (written by your Mother) According to my records she was the granddaughter of Elizabeth Franklin(g) (I've seen it spelled both ways)Carter. Our connection is thru Elizabeth Rebecca Carter Lewis, who was a sister to Cecelia Carter Leech/Leach. I understand that this is a busy time for you, so I don't want to take up too much of your time. I am a novice to genealogy, and am trying to put together a recording of historical family pictures, stories, records, dates, etc for my son, Mark Lewis. His father, Donald Lewis was an only child and has very little knowledge of this side of his family. I am attaching a picture I have of Elizabeth Frankling Carter at age 90 for your records. Also a picture of Elizabeth Rebecca Carter Lewis, who is the "Aunt Bett" your Mother referred to in her writing. If you use them anywhere, you can crop off my info. When you have more time, I will send you other dates and information that I have gleaned from the internet and conversations with my former husband.. I have tried to confine my research somewhat, as this genealogy craze can become mind boggling. The Leech/Leach name became important in my research because it seems Cecelia Carter Leech was the driving force that brought Mrs. Carter to Texas in the beginning. Good luck with your research and don't work too hard. Warm regards, Donnis Lewis-Coleman PS I visited your website and it is very impressing. I really enjoyed the pictures. Your mother was lovely.
